A Few Words From The Headteacher…
What a great selection of crazy hairstyles were on display as children came in to school this morning. A variety of different styles and a great selection of colours, I can’t help but think many of your bathrooms will still be this colour this evening – sorry!! Many thanks to everyone who joined in, the children all had fun and had lots to talk about and we raised some more money for FUS who came up with the idea. I hope everyone has an enjoyable half term break, we look forward to seeing
you all back on Monday 20th February. David Woolley

Book Week
We are planning a Book Week during the week beginning 27 February with lots of activities around books and reading to inspire the children to read more. We will be inviting parents in to read with their children on the afternoon of Thursday 1st March from 2.30pm onwards. School council have also planned a Bedtime Reading Pyjama day on Friday 2nd March (more details nearer the time).

Walk and Get Going
We hope the weather will become more spring like after half term, at the very least days will be longer. As more families are likely to start walking/ cycling to school we will be running our ‘Walk and Get Going’ scheme for the half term. Your child should have brought home a card today (spares available in office). The rules as before are your child can receive a tick if they walk/ cycle/ scooter for all or part of their journey or car share with a different family. If they can earn at least one tick for every one of the six weeks, they can collect a new badge.

Learner of the Week
Well done to Benjamin in Class 1 who has worked really hard this week to produce some fantastic written sentences with great vocabulary.

Competition Winners at Marwell!
At the last minute Marwell Zoological park asked us to contribute to a
competition they have been running to turn children’s artwork of animals at the park into a permanent mosaic to mark their 40th anniversary later this year. Class 4 were duly inspired to send in entries. I am delighted to report that out of the thousands of entries they had, 5 of our children were chosen, which goes to show how good standards of art are at Upham. The 5 children will be invited to the unveiling ceremony in May but in the meantime you may be interested to know that during half term (13 – 17 Feb) Marwell are holding public craft activities where all visitors are invited to help construct part of the mosaic.
