Class 4 have been learning about animal classification in Science and spent an enjoyable afternoon searching for minibeasts in our environmental area and den-building area, using identification keys (photo). They found a wide diversity of animals, such as newts, beetles, centipedes and lesser stag beetles. I was particularly pleased they found the lesser stag beetles as we haven’t seen them for a few years – their presence shows the work we have done to expand different habitats, log piles in particular, is working to improve biodiversity. The fact a hedgehog was also spotted last week at playtime further underlines this!
