We have talked about the 80th anniversary of D-Day this week in worship. Some of the remaining veterans have called on the youngest generations to learn the lessons from this moment so that when they have gone, the memory remains. This is exactly what we have tried to do. It is important children understand the terrible consequence of war so that throughout their lives they do all they can to prevent such an event ever being needed again. We marked the 6th June itself by a simple gathering with candles where we said a prayer and took a moment to reflect. I often share on the Newsletter a prayer the children have written but I’d like to share the one I said:
Dear Lord,
As we remember the events from 80 years ago today, we thank you for the extraordinary bravery and courage all those men and women showed on that day and the sacrifice so many of them made. We will remember them.
Please help us understand the terrible consequences of war and do all we can in our lives to bring peace and tolerance between everyone, regardless of who they are, and give us hope for freedom for all. Amen.
