Learning comes in lots of ways – that’s one of the reasons we praise (and therefore encourage) different types of learning through our Friday certificates; thinking (cognitive learning), emotional learning, social learning and learning how to learn (metacognition and self-regulation). Year 6 have missed out on SATs exams this year and whilst there are many benefits to this, the emotional learning that goes with applying yourself to an exam context is an important piece of learning. Miss Olver has created an exam week for them next week, for no other purpose than to experience this emotional learning. Part of the process is also the learning that it is OK to be nervous about something like an exam. She is running Pilates sessions for them before school to help them see that they can do something proactive to manage these feelings too.
