The Challenge Trail is what we call our complex of play equipment. Our school council helped to choose the pieces of equipment which means the children really enjoy using the climbing web, the rope-climb, the balance bridges, the balance beam, the bars and the monkey bars. The central structure is a tower where children get get a great view down. Underneath this is the 'cave' which children can explore. This offers all children good physical challenge during their play and our older children enjoy helping the younger ones to use it. It also raises the youngest's sense of aspiration, for example the monkey bars are too high for them to reach but there comes a time when they manage to do it for the first time and a great sense of pride accompanies this.
The Challenge trail is surrounded by a soft, artificial-grass surface which means the area is used in all weathers. The children really like the feel of this surface and enjoy just sitting on it.
