Children in Badgers Class really ‘opened their minds’ to new experiences on an interesting trip this week. As part of their learning in RE about special, sacred places, they visited two places of worship in Southampton, St Edmund’s Catholic Church and Singh Sabha Sikh Gurdwara. In the Catholic church, a priest showed them around and they explored some of the denominational differences within Christianity between Catholic and Anglican churches. In the Gurdwara, they really enjoyed finding out about how the space is used – they discovered it was originally a chapel and was repurposed by the Sikh community which really challenged how they think about a place of worship – that it’s more about the people and use than the building itself. Throughout, our children were respectful and polite but also very interested and engaged. They all commented how the volunteers made them feel so welcome.
