Class 2

Here is Class 2 where Years 1 and 2 learn. The classroom is large in order to accommodate the different types of learning they do from playing with construction toys and role playing to more formal written tasks. The classroom is a flexible learning space and is reorganised during the year with different spaces created and used. This is particularly important early on in the year when Year 1 just start as the transition from the early years play-based curriculum from Year R to the more prescribed national curriculum of Year 1 & 2.
One part of the classroom is on open area. This space is often used for the children to sit and use the large interactive whiteboard but often it is a space for more open play or for activities where children want to spread out, such as this shared circle activity:
In our school, each classroom has their own set of toilet cubicles. This means that children can easily go to the toilet whenever they need to - this is especially important for young children such as Years 1 and 2. The toilet areas are just next to cloakrooms so all of their coats, hats, trainers and equipment is easy to hand.
