Friday 14th January

Good morning and Happy Friday! Here's a morning message from me.
Plus some animal pictures, just because...

Here is a message from Mrs Soley:

Hello and good morning Class 4.  I hope you are well and have enjoyed your home learning this week.

I have been busy, as you know, recording stories, video messages and I have now completed my first cooking video.  Watch out for this next week; I hope you enjoy it.  Special mention to my son, Ben, he was the cameraman.

So that you can take part in next week’s art and cooking, please find a list of resources and ingredients below.

On Wednesday, you will be drawing/painting a picture of a Mayan warrior, have a look at the one that I did as well as reading the instructions to go with it.

FOR ART, YOU WILL NEED:

A4 plain paper

Pencil

Colouring pencils, pens, paints

Picture to copy from or your own imagination

On Friday, you will be making spicy cous cous.  There is also a written recipe to follow.

FOR COOKING, YOU WILL NEED:

Cous cous

Ground cumin

Salt

Vegetable or chicken stock cube if you prefer

Garlic

440g can black beans or beans of your choice

Small can of sweetcorn

1 small onion red or white

Fresh coriander/dried leaf or ground coriander

1 red or green pepper

Oil – olive, rapeseed or corn but not sunflower or vegetable

Lime juice – either fresh or bottled

Obviously, feel free to swap any ingredients if you don’t like them or don’t have them.  As I say in the video it is quite a flexible recipe so you can’t really go wrong with this one.  I hope you enjoy it.

Have a lovely weekend, relax and get some rest from all of this learning and I will see you all again next week.

Take care.

Mrs Soley xx

PE

Don't forget that PE with Joe is on today at 9am. It's fancy dress Friday, so I wonder what he will be dressing up as?! I will be joining in with the children at school today.

Maths

Today I have written you a set of word problems linked to our work on the Mayans so far. Make sure you read each problem really carefully and think about which operation you need to use.

There are 2 options today, one a bit easier and one a bit harder - the questions follow the same theme, but the easier one has smaller numbers and some clues for how to solve each question.

I've attached my answers which have my workings on, so you can use these to help you if you get stuck and to check at the end.

Remember - word problems must have a worded answer!

11am PE Live with Southampton Football Club

Mr Woolley has arranged for us to have a live PE lesson from Southampton Football Club today, your parents should have received the link on Parentmail, so ask them to help you find it.

Here is today's PE challenge and an extra PE version of Snakes and Ladders which you might want to have a go at with your family today or over the weekend.

English

It is Friday which means spelling test day! I have made a video of your spelling test for you to use. Remember that you can pause/replay this as many times as you need too. Or you can ask an adult to read the sentences out for you. Then check your work.

1.30pm Live Celebration Assembly on Teams

Mr Woolley is doing a Live Celebration Assembly on Teams. Your parents should have been sent a link via ParentMail. I'll be joining from in school - I hope you can all join too!

Cooking

Today, Mrs Soley has planned a cooking lesson for you making Guacamole – yum!

The Mayans may have eaten foods like Guacamole because avocados originate from Mexico, Central and South America and chilli peppers originate from Mexico.

If you’re not sure what to eat your guacamole with, have a look at the website below which has some very interesting and unusual ideas for you to try!
