Morning message from Mrs Mason 05/02/21

We also took inspiration from Betsy's den on Monday and made one at school too, although it didn't twinkle, but the children did enjoy making it and playing in it!  Don't forget there is the chance to do PE with Southampton Football club today at 11.00 am and Mr Woolley's Celebration Assembly is at 1.30 pm.  Miss Newton is also showing you how to make Jack and the Beanstalk cupcakes which look rather enticing - maybe have a go at them over the weekend if you don't have time today.  I hope you all have a good day and a lovely weekend.

Letters and Sounds

Play Spooky Sounds to practise your sounds.

Click on the link below to watch the Alphablocks with oo words.

Learn the new digraph oo (long sound) with Mrs Mason

Then click on the link below to read words with the long and short oo sound in.
Now have a look at the oo work book below and decide which pages you would like to do and print them off.  You could print 2 to a page to save paper, and both sides to save even more paper, and not print the front cover to save even more paper!

Number Time

Let's start the session with a story - Don't Forget the Bacon by Pat Hutchins.

Click on the link below to watch the crab and the tortoise throw two dice to play the number track game.  Then have a go yourself by printing off the game to the right of the video.  If you don't have 2 dice, use the virtual dice below.  You could always have a game of snakes of ladders instead if you have it at home - make sure you use 2 dice!
If you would like to challenge yourself using 2 dice, take a look at the problem below - I would really love to know how you got on if you tried this - it's tricky!!!!!
11.00 - 11.30 am PE with Southampton Football Club

Story Telling - The Three Billy Goats Gruff

Today's the day for telling the story, but before you tell it, sing the song again to warm up.  Good luck everyone.

1.30 - Celebration Assembly with Mr Woolley
Owls
Take a look at this really interesting short film about orphaned baby owls - it's really lovely!
There's a few owl colouring pages below if you're interested.

Cooking with Miss Newton

Hello Everyone,

Today we are making Jack and the beanstalk themed cupcakes. Here are things that you will need:

  • 6 Chocolate cupcakes - either shop bought or if you want to make your own there is a recipe for them here Chocolate cupcakes recipe - BBC Food.
  • 4 Oreo or Bourbon Biscuits
  • Chocolate Frosting or Chocolate Buttercream
  • Green Fondant

I thought today you may like to have a try at being a little bit more independent with making your cupcakes. In order to do this you will need to find a space to work maybe in the kitchen or at a table.

You will need:

A large bowl

Two dinner knives or butter knives

a rolling pin

a chopping board or plate

The next job is to watch my video where I will explain how to do make the cupcakes. If you aren't feeling confident then of course you can have adult can help you and if your working independently, ask for help if you are finding things tricky.

Love from

Miss Newton

NOTE FOR PARENTS: Even though I have asked the children to be as independent as possible please make sure an adult is available to supervise this activity.

Miss Newton's finished cupcakes.

A small message before you start.
