Mrs Mason's morning message

Good morning everyone, it was nice to see some of you yesterday on the morning meet up.  If you cannot make the google classroom link work for you, please drop me a line on the class 1 email and I will do my best to get you up and running.  I hope that India is feeling a bit better today and that Grace you managed to get a good night's sleep after breaking your ankle yesterday.  The good news is that we will all be back in school in two weeks time on the 8th March so let's give home learning a really good go over the next two weeks and make the most of having the flexibility to learn and spend time with our families too.  Looking out of my  window this morning, I can see that the sky is blue and the sun is out, the birds are making a lot of noise and it looks like it is going to be a beautiful morning.  So have a go at the Letters and Sounds activities and then why not see if you can spend some time outside.  Have a lovely day everyone.

Letters and Sounds

Watch and join in with the Jolly Phonics songs ch, sh, th, ng.

Cued articulation signs for ch, sh, th, ng

Now have a game of Poop Deck Pirates using ch, sh and th words - choose phase 3 to find the digraphs.
Now watch Mrs Mason introduce a new digraph - ow.

Introducing ow digraph

Try reading some words by using the sound sayer in ICTgames.com. Choose phase 3 and the digraph ow.  If you click on the 3 dots at the bottom of the grapheme card, it will produce a set of cards for you to sound out and read on screen.

Let's listen to the story "Wow said the Owl" as the words 'wow' and 'owl' both have the 'ow' digraph in.  See if you can spot them on the page too.

Choose one of the owl pictures below and write a short sentence about it.  Remember to sound out each word and write down each sound and try to leave a finger space between each word.  Send it over to me when it is done and I will put the sentence next to the correct picture to share with everyone on the website.

Today's Get Active exercise

Number Time

Listen to the story below about one Gorilla and lots of other things too.

Today we are going to sort picture cards made up of two amounts into buckets for totals of 9 and 10.  Work along with Miss Cooper and then see if you can count accurately to sort your own picture cards afterwards.  Are there any amounts you recognise now that you don't have to count?  We are watching Building 9 & 10, week 1, session 2.
If you'd like to challenge yourself further, try the pots to make 10 challenge below.
Practise writing the letter w - down the worm, up the worm, down the worm, up the worm.  You will need sheet number 68 from the link below.  Then try some on your own - remember to go down the worm first.

The 3 Little Pigs

Today you can make some stick puppets of the characters from the 3 Little Pigs and then use these to act out the story of the 3 Little Pigs or even give a performance of the story to your family.  Carefully cut out each character and attach it to a stick or a straw to make your puppet.  If you have no sticks, you can just move the cut out characters around.  There are also colouring pages that have the 3 different houses, amongst other parts of the story, that you could print out and colour in and use to tell your story if you wanted to.  To download what you need, click on the link below to get to the twinkl 3 Little Pigs share page and enter the code FY0721 (third digit is a zero).  Why don't you listen to the audio version of the story before you make your puppets to remind yourself of what happened and try to  join in with some of the repeated phrases of the wolf and the pigs too.  Have fun.
