  • Filming Experience For The Children

    Fri 23 Oct 2020

The filming by BBC South Today went well yesterday, even the sun came out on time! The team gathered some good shots and I have been told that they have enough to include in the titles, as planned. The new titles will go out from Monday next week on the 1.30pm and 6.30pm programmes so tune in and see what you can spot – look closely, it will be brief!

The children were interested in the process of filming – especially why things have to be repeated so often for an apparently minor change!

  • BBC South Today Filming Next Week

    Fri 16 Oct 2020

I have sent a letter out today explaining how we have ‘BBC South Today’ filming in school next week, which will be very exciting. They are planning to film a very short sequence that might be used in the title sequence of ‘South Today’. Pete Marshall, a Class 3 parent, is a director and will be present with a camera operator. They will be distanced and separate throughout to avoid virus risks. I hope this will be a moment of interest and excitement for the children, which in this time when so many other events are cancelled, will be beneficial. Since children’s faces will feature, please return the slip on the letter (or email permission) ASAP so that your child can be included.

  • Parent Governor Election

    Fri 09 Oct 2020

We have had four parents kindly volunteer themselves for the role of parent governor so we will therefore be running an election for this. We will send out all of the information and voting slips next week. Please can I urge you to carefully follow the instructions for how to return your votes – if you write the wrong thing on the wrong envelope it might invalidate your vote inside! I will also confirm the names of the candidates next week but I would like to thank all of them for putting themselves forward and the commitment they have shown to supporting our school. It is humbling to have so many volunteers when I know colleagues of mine in other schools often struggle to recruit anyone.

  • Whole School Harvest Assembly

    Fri 02 Oct 2020

We started the week with our Harvest assembly, outside on the playground. It was lovely to be all together for the first time in a long while and to sing some harvest songs – including our favourite ‘Cauliflowers Fluffy’! We talked about how Harvest is a time to appreciate the things we have in our lives, not least food, and that all the seeds, berries and fruits at this time of year are a good reminder. I illustrated this by throwing as many sycamore ‘helicopters’ into the air as I could – which many young children then copied at playtime – I wonder if they mentioned this to you? We went on to discuss the work of Winchester Churches Nightshelter and the work they do. My thanks to families who sent a donation in. Children made an ‘offering’ of these gifts into the chest, shown in the picture above.
