  • Spring is here

    Fri 25 Mar 2022

What a stunning week we have had in the warm sunshine. The children have assumed it is now summer and the usual abandoned jumpers are appearing on the field (named ones can be returned to their owners!). The daffodils on the bank at the front of the school have never looked better and are a splash of welcome colour (picture above). Class 1 took advantage of the conditions to have a walk around the village to look for signs of spring. They followed the same route as their autumn walk last year to notice the changes with the seasons. I hope they had lots to tell you about when they saw you!

  • Coach visit from Hampshire Cricket Club

    Fri 18 Mar 2022

We enjoyed having a cricket coach visit from Hampshire Cricket Club yesterday. He worked with each class and set up some cricket activities to develop skills required for the game. Everyone enjoyed this, not least because it was such a wonderful sunny day. We try to use specialist sports coaches wherever we can to support delivering specific skill teaching but also because it raises interest for children to get involved and have a go.

  • Prayers for Ukraine

    Fri 11 Mar 2022

The situation in Ukraine is an ever present issue on any media, TV and the intranet and will be part of children’s consciousness. We therefore decided we needed to try to talk about it. Miss Olver explored the issues in assembly using BBC Newsround materials. Though this showed the reality of war, such as the tanks, it did not show any conflict or fighting or anything that could cause distress. She didn’t try to explain why it was happening, I don’t think any of us really understand that, more that it is and there are people in a distant land suffering. The children worked in family groups and wrote prayers using a map image shaded with the Ukraine flag. In one half they wrote an ’ask God’ for something and in the other half a ‘thank you to God’. Children often have an ability to see the simple reality of situations where adults can over complicate.

  • World Book Day

    Mon 07 Mar 2022

World Book day was lots of fun yesterday – the children seemed to really enjoy dressing up. There was such a clever range of costumes – we had Vikings, princesses, superheroes, and all manner of

characters. Of course dressing up isn’t for everyone, which is why we

tend not to do it many times during the year but for those who embrace the opportunity, this is a lovely day. All the children should have brought home a book token which can be exchanged with certain retailers for a special range of books produced for the event or as £1 off other published books.
