  • Learning outside this week

    Fri 28 Jan 2022

We are so lucky with our outside space at Upham and try to use the grounds for learning as well as active play and sport. On Wednesday in the sunshine, Class 4 conducted a science investigation to explore how well their shoes created frictional forces and therefore grip, on different surfaces. The picture above shows them taking some measurements using force meters. Whilst Class 4 were investigating the Astro-turf surface, Class 1 were also using the benches on the field to make some bird feeders.

  • A few words from the headteacher...

    Mon 24 Jan 2022

Although it has been a week where unfortunately COVID cases have reared their head again, learning has continued in school. The children adapted quickly to the bubble rules and everyone has followed the zone rules without problems. My hope is that these measures will not be in place for too long, just until the growth of cases due to child to child transmission stops. I will provide an update of this situation on next week’s newsletter.

  • Weekly 1K run with Mrs Pilgrim

    Fri 14 Jan 2022

Mrs Pilgrim created quite a stir this week. She is in training for a 50 mile run in the summer (she must be mad!) and tried to enlist the children’s help in an assembly. She encouraged them to help motivate her by joining in a weekly 1K run (or walk) around our running route at playtime once a week. Children from across the school seemed really keen and on Wednesday around 50 of them, all spread out in a long snake, completed the course. A nice way of encouraging some physical activity at playtime and adding some interest. We will see who keeps this up over the next few weeks!

  • Happy New Year

    Mon 10 Jan 2022

Happy New Year to everyone! It was lovely to see the children back this week – and we have even seen some sunshine this week which was sadly lacking over Christmas. Everyone has been full of stories about the things they have done, fun they had and of course news about presents they received. It’s one of the nice things about returning to school at this time of year; the opportunity to share news and reconnect with their friends.
