  • A few words from the headteacher ....

    Fri 24 Sep 2021

It has been a most unsettled and disrupted week for everyone. Many of you have gone through the turmoil of finding out a positive case with all of the worry that brings – I can appreciate that having been confirmed positive myself. It’s an odd stress too, dealing with worried friends and family and fielding well-meaning advice. For so many of you keeping children off to wait for a test, wait for a result or just wait for things to develop will have been very stressful and worrying. In school, the staff team have done a fabulous job of trying to keep things going, they have offered remote learning for those of you at home and tried to keep things ‘as normal as possible’ for those in school without passing on their own worries and stress. I would like to say thank you to all of them for this week for going beyond their usual roles and I am sure you will join me in this. I would also like to thank all of you for your help, cooperation and support too this week. By continuing to work together we can hopefully get past this outbreak more quickly. For obvious reasons, not a very usual newsletter this week, more some information to help. I will send through updates regarding how things are developing next week.

  • First week for Year R

    Fri 17 Sep 2021

Welcome to all of our new Year R children and families who have completed their first week of school! The Year 6 buddies have done a brilliant job in playing with them and helping them gain confidence at playtimes, in fact, everyone is happily out exploring around the grounds. I had forgotten over the last year of ‘bubbles’ how much the new children bring out caring strengths in everyone else – across the school I have seen other children forming friends with the Year Rs, playing and looking after them.

  • Whole school assemblies

    Fri 10 Sep 2021

It was lovely this week to hold whole school assemblies again with everyone together in the hall. Digital solutions were very successful last year but being together creates richer discussion, feedback and the sense of being with others; as a family.

We explored the Paralympics this week and I was most impressed by how much the children knew. It was good to hear them able to discuss disability in such positive and constructive ways. In particular we used the example of Masie Summers-Newton competing against her hero Ellie Simmonds, who had inspired her. I asked the children who their heroes were – some really interesting answers!

  • Welcome back to school

    Tue 07 Sep 2021

Welcome back to school! We also welcome two new families to our school today and hope they enjoyed their first days with us.

It’s always a mixture of emotions returning to school, we all love time at home doing the things we enjoy but equally it’s great to be back with everyone else with that sense of belonging. Every year since my first year of teaching, I have felt nervous every September with some trepidation about the unknown of what the new year might bring. Of course the same is true for the children so it has been lovely to see them chatting, playing and interacting together. And I do mean truly together with a return to the cross-age interaction that makes our school family so special. I hope they will have forgotten any nerves and are now ready to start properly next week – I certainly have!
