  • Lent

    Fri 24 Feb 2023

In collective worship this week we have talked about how Pancake day has given way to the start of Lent, a most serious time in the Christian character. Traditionally, many people give things up for Lent but the central goal is to try to be a better person; to make conscious decision to act differently. School Council have helped me plan how we are going to try to encourage the children to do this. Each week, we will have a theme about a certain act or behaviour to try to do more often. If children think they have done this they can then choose a sticker, either to wear or collect. The emphasis will be on them deciding if they think they deserve this – being honest with yourself being a key part of our vision ‘to love self’. Look out for the first theme next week!

Today the children gathered together and used their shields together – making some of the defensive formations legions of soldiers would have used – a really practical way to understand how they dominated the Celts.

They have been learning about The Roman invasion of Britain all term so the timing of this trip meant they could apply their understanding to the things they saw and experienced. They dressed up and experienced aspects of Roman life with the specialist education staff as well as explore the primary evidence of real artefacts and of course the ruins themselves, to understand how historical conclusions are drawn.
