  • Sports Superstars

    Fri 24 Jun 2022

It has been a wonderful week of sport – our sports day on Tuesday was a great success but also a visit by Upham School to the Hampshire Games yesterday. These Games are the pinnacle of sport for schools in Hampshire and schools mainly qualify by winning area and district competitions. We were specially invited to attend by Hampshire Games organisers because we have offered such frequent and extensive competitive opportunities to all of our junior children throughout the year; more than schools much larger than us. We were therefore able to take a selected group to participate in a special competition. They all had a great day and enjoyed the activities and the opportunity to represent our school at a Hampshire level. My thanks to Mrs Bird and Mrs Soley who accompanied them.

  • Feels like Summer

    Fri 17 Jun 2022

What a hot couple of days it has been! We have spoken to the children lots about keeping healthy and safe in the heat; drinking lots, sticking to shade, wearing hats etc.  Yesterday many children found it hard to do this, they were too happy playing in the warm conditions and as a result we had many grumpy, ‘hot’ children later in the day. Today was much better, children learned from yesterday and were much calmer and proactive in staying cool.  This is all part of learning to self-regulate and happens every year when we first get really hot days!  Children are of course welcome to wear hats and sun-cream throughout the summer, though sun-cream should be applied before coming to school as we are not permitted to apply it for children.

  • Jubilee Street Party

    Fri 10 Jun 2022

We had a lovely day on Monday, returning from the Jubilee celebrations over the weekend to our Jubilee day in school. Children all spent time learning a little more about monarchy, the Queen and the Jubilee itself. In the afternoon we had a ‘street party’ outside. This very traditional British way of celebrating was very new to the children so we watched footage of the previous Jubilees so children could see the similarity in ways of celebrating and how they have experienced a piece of history they might look back on in the future.

A the end of the day, children were all presented with a special Jubilee mug which was kindly organised and donated by The Upham Community – what an amazing gift and my thanks goes to all those who helped organise this!
