VE Day

We held a whole school worship yesterday to mark VE Day. We talked about why VE day was such an important moment and how every family in Britain would have felt a mixture of relief and happiness that it was over but sadness for those family who would not be coming home. We watched some short old film reels of London celebrations – of course this feels like ancient history for the children in their short lives but it’s so important that they, and indeed we, recognise what that generation did to ensure the freedoms we enjoy.

Our school survived the war too and our own history records the experience of VE. We have in school log books that headteachers from the past used to fill in, one of these covers the war years. I showed the children the entry pictured above for VE day that simply explains the school was closed in celebration!
