Friday 10th July

Good morning Class Four and happy Friday - it's almost the weekend and the weather forecast is amazing, hopefully it will be warm and sunny all weekend!

I had a bit of pet trouble again last night. I went out in the garden to put the recycling away and found Fred playing with a bird. The poor thing was still alive, so I tried to rescue it, but Fred decided he'd jump over the fence, kill it and then eat it in next door's garden where I couldn't get to him. I know it's part of nature, but it's still horrible! He knew I was cross with him so stayed away for a couple hours, then snuck in quietly when he decided it was teatime! My Mum says it's probably because I've decided to eat a lot more vegetarian meals recently, so there are a lot less meat treats in my house!!

I told Flash and Fred that I needed some pictures of them this morning for the website and they listened and posed!!

As it is Friday today, I'm hoping for some emails from you all. If you are a Year 5 - make sure you send me your number four from the moving up morning, I've had quite a few already and they are fantastic, well done! You can choose what you send me this week, whichever learning you are most pleased with. It would be nice to see some insect hotels too if you made them.

Have a lovely weekend, don't forget your suncream and hat! Love Miss Olver x

Here is a message from Mrs Soley:

Good morning everyone,

I hope you have all had a good week of learning.  The weather has not been so good this week but I hope you’ve been able to get out and do activities with your families anyway.

I am looking forward to receiving some photos of your bug hotels; we all had a go at doing this in class yesterday afternoon.  There was some moaning and groaning because a few people found it hard to roll newspaper but we shall certainly have some bug hotels to go out in the autumn.

I have included a few photos of Jacob.  The first one is of the cheeky little monkey sitting on his train table, which he got for his birthday.  He likes putting the trains along the bridge he has because it lights up and makes sounds.  Needless to say, he is not supposed to be sitting on the table.

One is of him having a snooze in his new travel cot.  His mummy and daddy are having a little holiday in their caravan and the cot they already had was too big to fit in.  As you can see, this one is perfectly comfortable and he managed a 2-hour nap.

My final photo is of Jacob on Wednesday evening.  Mr Soley and I were giving him his dinner and bathing him because his mummy and daddy had to go out.  He had pasta with cheese sauce for tea, which I think you will agree, he seems to like.  He also gobbled up some lovely fresh raspberries for his pudding.

I am very excited for the weekend as Jacob and Hannah are coming for a sleepover on Friday into Saturday.  As the weather will be nice, I’m hoping we can go for a walk.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes.

Mrs Soley xx

Maths

Today is Friday which means word problems day!

Year 5 - your questions are based on Class Four in September.

Year 6 - your questions are linked to your secondary schools.

Remember that worded problems need a worded answer.

I've included my workings and answers so you can check your answers.

*There is a mistake in the last question on the Year 6 answers - it should say 'The Kings School'. Sorry!*

Spellings and Reading

Today is Friday, which means it is spelling test day! As always you have two choices:

  1. Watch the video of me reading the spelling sentences for your test. Remember that you can pause it and replay it as many times as you like.
  2. Ask an adult to read the sentences aloud for you as you write them down.

If an adult is free, then you could ask them if they would very kindly mark your sentences for you. If not, then use the document below to mark them yourself. Good luck!

Also remember to do some independent reading of a book of your choice.
