Monday 11th January

Good Morning Class 2!

Hello,

I hope you had a lovely weekend. It was very cold! I took Finley and Lewis for a bike ride to the park on Saturday and on Sunday I went for a walk with my friend. It was nice to be outside even though we did have to wrap up warm! Did you manage to go outside? I hope you had fun whatever you did!

Thank you so much for all of your emails. All of us have really enjoyed reading your emails and finding out what you have been up to. One of my jobs for this week is to go through all of your emails and add all of your lovely learning to our Class 2 Gallery. Did you spot the gallery? It’s on the Class 2 page at the top. It has a picture of a tree! Hopefully by the end of this week, you will be able to find some of your learning in there. I know that Mr Woolley likes looking through the class galleries too to see the brilliant learning you are all doing at home. Remember to send me another email this week!

Exciting news! Joe Wicks is starting his morning workouts again and his first one is today! I will be joining in this morning with the children that are in school.  It is live at 9am but you can do it any time you like! Click the link underneath this message to join in.

Love from

Mrs Sothcott xx

On Friday, I gave you your Mighty Writing task for you to work on over the weekend. If you missed it on Friday, here it is:

Did you choose your favourite fairy story or traditional tale? If you didn't have time at the weekend, you could choose one from home to read now. One of my favourite fairy tales is The Three Little Pigs. You can watch me reading this story here:

Today, I would like you to retell the beginning of your chosen story. Start by retelling your story out loud. Now you are going to have a go at writing your story. You have a choice of how you would like to do this.

Option 1: You might like to just get on and write the story in your own words. You can either use the lined template below or just write on any paper you have at home.

Option 2: You could draw some pictures and add a sentence for each picture using the story board template below.

Remember, you don't need to write the whole story! Today, I just want you to concentrate on writing the beginning of your story. I would like you to spend 20 minutes writing and then stop.  We will be continuing tomorrow. Where does your story start? Who are the characters? Think about your first sentence. Fairy stories often start with the words 'Once upon a time...'. Will your story start with these words? Below is a tricky word mat and a phonics sound mat to help you with your spellings:

Assembly with Mr Woolley

Mr Woolley has sent a link via Parent Mail to join his Teams Assembly live at 11am.

Maths

Year 1

Today we are going to be comparing groups of objects and thinking about which group is the greatest (the biggest) and which group is the least (the smallest). For example:

Please watch the video below.

Now have a go at the worksheet.
For an extra challenge try the problem solving sheet.

Year 2

Today we are going to be comparing groups of objects and thinking about which group is the greatest (the biggest) and which group is the least (the smallest). For example:

Please watch the video below.

Now have a go at the worksheet.
For an extra challenge try the problem solving sheet below.

Phonics

Click on the Power Point below to practice your sounds. This is the same Power Point that we use in school! Make sure you say each sound clearly:

Year 1:

Today we are going to be learning about the grapheme 'er'. You have already learnt this grapheme and you know how to blend it in the middle of words like stern. You also know that the 'er' sound can come at the end of words e.g. hotter, letter. Say each of the following words slowly and carefully:

stern

serve

better

letter

Does the 'er' grapheme make exactly the same sound in each word? When the 'er' sound is in the middle of a word it makes a long 'er' sound. When the 'er' is at the end of words it makes a much shorter sound.

Now have a go at playing the Read and Roll game below:

Year 2:

Today we are learning a new sound: 'dge'. These three letters together make a 'j' sound. This sound usually comes at the end of words. First, let's watch this short song on YouTube to find out which words have the 'dge' sound in them:

Now have a go at the activity below. You have to read the list of 'dge' words and decide which word completes each sentence.
If you would like an extra challenge, have a go at the word search below:

P.E

This afternoon I would like you to get active! You might like to do your own thing at home. Maybe you could go for a bike ride or a walk. Or you could choose one of the activities below. There is a link to Sports Dave's video page. On here, there are lots of different sports lessons for you to join in with. There is also a link to Cosmic Kids Yoga on YouTube. These videos are very easy to follow and combine stories with simple Yoga moves. I have done a few of these at home with my children!

Reading

Spend at least 15 minutes reading. You could either read one of your books from home or log onto Bug Club and read one of your colour band books.

Then click on the link below to watch me read a Traditional Tale from Japan:
