The field area is a most important part of the school! The ground is so chalky on the hills here that it drains freely which means we use it all year round. Even in the depths of winter, a few dry days and the children are using it. At playtimes and lunchtimes it is used for sports, running about and games. There are also a few grassy mounds dotted about which promotes different types of play and offers some physical challenge for our younger children. In the summer they are just nice places to sit and chat!
The field is also used for sports sessions and after school clubs, such as in the picture below our specialist sports coach Mrs Harmer working with a class. It is a large space and, being such a small school, children enjoy the space and freedom. The views are also stunning, on a clear day the hills on the Isle of Wight are visible. The meadow field the other side of the fence often has sheep in and children get to watch the spring lambs and the farmer rounding them up with a sheepdog! This helps to connect the children with the rural environment around us.
