Good Morning Class 2!

How was your weekend? We had a lovely time on Friday celebrating VE Day. Did you do anything special? Finley and Lewis made some decorations and then we made some yummy scones. When everything was ready, we had a picnic in our garden and listened to some music from the 1940s. There was one extra little treat on Friday afternoon...a visit from an ice cream van! What a lovely day!

Are you ready for a new week of learning? I am so impressed with all of the super learning you have been emailing me. Keep up the hard work!

Good morning Class 2!

I hope you have had a fabulous weekend and enjoyed the warm weather over the bank holiday.

What did you do to commemorate VE Day? Issy and Hayden made bunting and then camped out overnight in our garden underneath it!
I enjoyed sharing a barbecue and a water fight with my family and listening to music that was played at the real VE Day celebrations.

I also went out for my first proper bike ride in 30 years as Mr Miller gave me a new bike so that we could all go out riding together. This was a little scary for me as I haven’t owned a bike for so long, but I really enjoyed the new challenge and I am going to keep working at it. I might even start riding my bike to school once I get a bit braver!

Well I had better let you get on with your learning now, so have a good week and don’t forget to have a look at the ‘Message from Mrs Miller’ section on the Class 2 homepage to see if you want to try the new challenge I set  for you.

Take care

love Mrs Miller x

Spellings for this week

Mighty Writing

Use the sentences you completed and ideas to write out your story or you information sheet. (Look on Thursday of last week's home learning to remind yourself if you need to.)

Make sure you include information which tells us - if you felt safe in your den; what you could hear while you were in there;

what you could touch - or what was touching you - perhaps a leaf or the grass. Write about if you were prickled anywhere and got wet.

Think about how long it took to build the den and how much effort it took, was it harder than you expected?

Maths

Last week we were learning to measure mass and capacity. This week we are moving onto a new maths topic: Number and Place Value. This is such an important part of maths and we need to keep practising our number and counting skills really regularly! We are going to be using the brilliant lessons on the BBC website to help us.  For each lesson, there is a little video and then some activities to have a go at.  Each day, you just need to follow the link to either the Year 1 or Year 2 lesson:

Art

I have a fun activity for you to do today! I would like you to create a picture of a rainforest animal. You are allowed to choose how to create your picture. You could do a pencil drawing, painting, collage or something else. There are some pictures below for you to use and copy if you like or you can find your own picture. It’s up to you! It’s a good idea to use a picture to copy so you can look carefully at the shape of the animal. Remember when you are creating your artwork to keep looking back at your picture.  I am very excited to see what you come up with. Please send me a photo of your finished piece of artwork!
