Friday 15th January

Good morning Class 2!

Good morning Class 2!

I hope you've had a good week and you've been getting on well with the learning. We've really enjoyed hearing from you and seeing all of your work. Have you spotted any of your work in the Class 2 gallery?

I hope you manage to get outside this weekend whatever the weather. Let us know what you get up to. I'm not sure what we will be doing yet but we will definitely be getting outside and letting Alice have a walk as she's getting very good at walking outside now! I think she may become a runner like me! I will be happy as long as I have at least one hot chocolate!

Miss Newton would like me to let you know that your bread will take an hour to prove. You may like to start it by watching the first video she has made and then leave your dough to prove whilst you do something else.

Have a lovely weekend.

Love Mrs Pilgrim x

PE 9:30 am - 10:30 am

Southampton Football club will be running this live sports lesson for us to join in with. You should have already received the link you need to join via Parentmail.

I hope you enjoy the lesson!

English

For English today, you are going to have a go at writing the spelling sentence you have been practising. Click on the video below to hear Mrs Pilgrim reading out each spelling sentence.

I would like you to have a go at a Reading Comprehension today. Year 2s, you will remember doing these during our Reading Roundabout time last year. Year 1s, this will be new for you! You can choose the level that you would like to do. Pink is the easiest so this might be a good place to start for Year 1s. Year 2s, have a look and choose which is best for you.

Mighty Writing

On Monday morning, the children will be doing their Mighty Writing. Click on the document below to read how you can help your child prepare for their writing over the weekend:

Phonics

Click on the Power Point below and practice reading each sound carefully and clearly:

Year 1:

Yesterday you learnt that the letter ‘a’ can sometimes make a short sound and sometimes a longer ‘ai’ sound. Have a go at reading the words below. Does the letter ‘a’ make a short a or long ai sound?

paper, black, clap, apron

Today you are going to find out that the letter ‘a’ can also make a short ‘o’ sound in some words. Click on the link below for your phonics lesson:

Year 2:

Yesterday you revised the alternative pronunciations of the letter 'c' by reading and sorting some words. Today I would like you to have a go at writing some sentences containing words with the soft 'c' sound. Click on each of the videos below to hear me read each sentence. When you have written each sentence, have a careful look at each word. Does it look right? Are there any words with the soft 'c' sound in? Then click on the word document underneath to check your spellings.

Maths

For a little warm up I would like you to do the below activity which is all to do with your 2 times table. You might want to practise saying it before you try the activity.

Today in Maths we are continuing to think about equal groups and making equal groups. We will also be adding equal groups today. Watch the video below.
Now watch my video where I show you what you will be doing today.
Now watch my video which will show you how to use the number line and hundred square to help you.

This is what I would like you to do today:

Year 1

Choose a sentence from the sentence document below, e.g. 2 groups of 2.

Use objects from home to make the equal groups like I did with my mega blocks.

Write the repeated addition number sentence on a piece of paper next to your groups and take a photo, like I did, e.g. 2 + 2.

If you can, count how many there are altogether to find the total. Try and do it in 2s. Use the number line or 100 square to help you if you need it.

Below you will find the sentences document, the number line and the hundred square.

Year 2

Choose a sentence from the sentence document below, e.g. 4 groups of 10.

Use objects from home to make the equal groups like I did with my mega blocks.

Draw a picture to go with it like I did.

Write the repeated addition number sentence like I did, e.g. 10 + 10 + 10 + 10.

Count how many there are altogether to find the total. Try and do it in 10s. Use the number line or 100 square to help you if you need it.

Below you will find the sentences document, the number line and the hundred square.

Cooking Friday

Dear Class 2,

Wow what a fantastic job you did with your baking last week. The cakes were delicious weren't they. This week we are going to be making bread.

The ingredients you will need for your bread is:

500g Bread flour (white or wholemeal)

7g (1 sachet) Fast action yeast - if you are using fresh yeast you will need 14g and 1 tsp of sugar which you will need to mix together and leave for 10 minutes before using.

1tsp Salt

350ml lukewarm water

small amount of oil

I hope everyone who wants to join in didn't find it too difficult finding all the ingredients. I have done things a little differently this week and made a couple of videos for each stage.

Video 1 is a video of how to make the bread dough.

Video 2 is a 10 minute timer for kneading your bread.

Video 3 is a video on how to shape your bread and bake it.

I hope you have fun making it and I look forward to seeing what you have made.
