Friday 25th April

Hi Class Four and Happy Friday!!!

I managed to paint the kitchen ceiling yesterday - it was really awkward above the cupboards but so glad it's done. I picked up the wall paint from B and Q on my way home from school on Wednesday, so excited to get that up over the next few days.

I planted some sweet peas at the beginning of lockdown which are now growing - I've never grown them before so excited to see how they will turn out. I also bought some little plants and they are now flowering so it's starting to look quite pretty in my garden.

Today is Friday - which is really exciting for me because it's email day. I miss you all lots so have been looking forward to today so I can hear from you and see what you have been up to.

Please can you email me:

  • A message to tell me how you are and some of the things you have been doing
  • Your silent writing Easter holiday recount
  • Your Greek God topic art work which you will be doing today
  • Any work/photos of Earth Day activities to add to our gallery

Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you. Enjoy your learning today and then tomorrow will be the weekend smiley

Love Miss Olver x

Here is a message from Mrs Soley:

Happy Friday class 4!

Hope you are all well and have enjoyed all your learning this week including our new topic of The Groovy Greeks.  I have spent a few days this week working on an art project to do with the Greeks, you will have your own opportunity next week to have a go at this as well.  No need to rush this, I have really enjoyed taking my time and am very pleased with how it has turned out.  There is another recipe for you to try, it’s two things to make but depending on availability of ingredients, please feel free to make whatever you can.  Here is what you will need for both:-

400g tin chickpeas, tahini, extra virgin olive oil, garlic and a lemon (for the hummus)

Yeast, plain flour, salt and olive oil (for the flatbreads to dip).

As I said, make just one of these or if you cannot get any of these ingredients then send us a photo of something else you have cooked or one of you helping to make dinner.  You will need a blender or mixer for the hummus, I don’t think a sieve will help!  Photos will follow when I have made some.

I am in the middle of planning a family quiz over Skype at the moment.  My son, Ben, arranged one which we did at the weekend and it was good fun.  Unfortunately, Hannah beat us all on her own.  This time it is Hannah vs Ben and they are both very competitive!  I’ve promised a pizza delivery to the winner so that should make it interesting.

My two photos show some little cards (there were more) that had been placed along a woodland walk near to where I live.  Obviously, some kind person thought it would be a good idea to do this for younger children to concentrate on when out for a daily walk.

Have a lovely weekend and I will catch up with you on Monday.

Lots of love.

Mrs Soley xx

*The artwork and cooking Mrs Soley has talked about are planned into your timetable of lessons for next week smiley*

*Mrs Soley is also starting reading a new audio book tomorrow called Slime by David Walliams. Lots of you are already receiving this via email each day. If anyone else would like to receive it as well, drop us an email and Mrs Soley can add you to the email list*

I will be starting my day again with PE with Joe - hopefully it'll be fancy dress Friday again, I wonder what he will be wearing?! As long as it's not as hard as yesterdays I don't mind! 2 minutes of burpees was very hard work.

Maths

Year 5 and 6

Today is Friday, which means problem solving day! The document below has a set of worded problems all based around Greece. You will need to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Make sure you read the questions carefully so you know which operation you need to use and to see if the problem is one step or two steps. Remember – worded problems need a worded answer!

I have worked through the questions myself and taken photos of my workings, so if you’ve got something wrong, have a look at my workings and see if you can spot where your mistake was and correct it.

If you have time and want an extra challenge:

We will be doing a problem solving session each Friday. Can you write me some worded problems based on Greece and email them to me so I can use them for our problem solving session next week? You must send me the answers too though!

English

Remember to make an entry into your diary/journal at some point today.

Topic

Yesterday, you started finding out about different Greek Gods. Mrs Soley has planned you a fun Greek God art activity for today’s session.

You need to design your own Greek God or Goddess. You need to think about what he/she will look like, what powers/attributes he/she has and what name they will have. Lots of the teachers have had a go as well, here are ours:

Remember to send me a photo of your art work in your email today and we will create a new class gallery so you can see each others as well as the teacher ones.

PE

Sports Dave has put a new skills lesson based on basketball onto his page on the website, try to work through this during this session (go to News, Sport and Keeping Active Home Learning).

Sports Dave has also set you two weekly challenges for this week on his page . You could have a go at them today or at some point over the weekend. I didn't have a go at the Creative Challenge this week because I don't have anyone to set a workout for at home! But I did have a go at the physical one. Here's my attempt with a score of 23. I wonder if any of you can beat it?

Spellings and Reading

Today is Friday and that means spelling test day. You can either:

  • Watch the video of me reading out the spelling sentences for your test. Remember if you do, you can pause the video and replay as many times as you need to.
  • Ask your parent to read the sentences out for you.

Once you are finished, if a parent is free, then you could ask them to kindly mark them for you, or you could open up the spelling sentences document and mark them yourself.

Remember to do some independent reading of a book of your choice.
