Thursday 2nd April

Good morning Class Four!

Hope your week of home learning is going well so far. I have been sent some lovely photos of your cooking, silent writing and some other activities you have been up to. It's always so good to hear from you and see what you are doing at home - I miss you all lots!

I had another busy day of sorting things yesterday and made some more Easter cards to post to my friends and family.

I have a bit of a favour to ask you - I wasn't sure if the Bishops Waltham Parish Magazine would still be publishing during this period, but I had an email today to say that it is. I have to send the next entry in on Saturday. I wondered if anyone would like to write an article for me to send in? It could be about what it's like doing home learning, the types of activities you have been doing, how you learn and how you are finding working from home? Or it could be about making the rainbows - how it feels when you see them, why we made them, if you enjoyed doing the task? Or it could be about the Science fair we did before we broke up? This is just an optional task if anyone would like to do some extra writing. I have lots of photos I can attach to the document, so all I need is the text.

Have a lovely day and make sure you work hard, Love Miss Olver x

I forgot to take any photos yesterday - so instead here is an inspirational (and very true) quote to start your day smiley

Today's Learning

As always, I will be starting off my day with Joe Wicks. If you have been doing it too, I wonder if tomorrow you will join in with the fancy dress challenge?! I think I should, so I'll be busy thinking today about what I can wear using only what I already have in my house.

Maths

As it is Thursday today, you need to start with your Learn It challenge. Do the second one from your pack today. Give yourself 2 minutes for this. When you finish, if an adult is free then you could ask them to kindly mark it for you, if not mark it yourself with a calculator.

Today you will be learning about thousandths. Go to the website and choose 'Home Learning', 'Year 5', 'Week 1', 'Lesson 4'.

The lesson follows the same set up as the rest of the week. Watch the video, work through the worksheet questions when it says to do so and then check your answers at the end.

If you have enough time, or want to do some extra work on this, then you can work through the challenge activities below. They are similar to the pink problems we have at the end of our worksheets in Maths at school. Remember that you should be spending about an hour on your Maths each day, so just do as much as you can in that amount of time. It doesn't matter if you can't quite finish it all.

English

Remember to write an entry into your diary/journal at some point today.

Today I would like you to work on spelling words with the ‘ly’ ending. You can choose whether you work through Activity 1 or 2 below, then check your answers using the answer sheets. Don’t worry if you don’t have a printer at home, you can just write the answers in your book.

Once you have finished your chosen activity, you could:

  • Play matching pairs of words and suffix ‘ly’ endings using the cards you had for last week’s spelling lesson.
  • Play the ‘ly’ board game you had for last week’s spelling lesson.
  • Have a go at the ‘ly’ wordsearch below.

Science and Design and Technology

As you might have realised, I've been really lucky and had lots of other teachers (Mrs Soley, Mrs Kimble, Miss Kimber, Mrs Munday...) all help me with writing you messages and setting you lessons. Everyone has been so keen to help you with your learning. So today's Science lesson comes from Mr Poppy, oops I mean Mr Arkinstall! Watch the videos and you can make your own Paper Snapper.

Think about how the sound is being made with this creation! Enjoy smiley

Spellings and Reading

Make sure you practise your spelling sentence ready for your test on Friday and do some independent reading of a book of your choice.
