Tuesday 12th January

Good morning Class Four!

Here is a morning video message for you from Mrs Soley:

PE

Here is today's School Games activity. This looks really fun and I will be joining in with it at school today!

Maths

Today, I would like you to start by doing your Learn It challenge - give yourself 2-3 minutes to complete it. I have emailed these out to those of you learning from home. Those of you learning in school, you can get yours from your tray. If you haven't received it, please send me an email and I'll send yours across again. Let me know how you get on so I can update it on my tracker and send you a new one if you pass ready for next week. Good luck!

Today you are going to be continuing with your work on Factors from yesterday, but today you are going to be learning about Common Factors. Start by watching the Common Factor video for your year group and then have a go at the worksheet. I’ve attached the answers so you can check your work.

When working out common factors, remember to work through these steps:

  • Work out all the factors of the first number.
  • Work out all the factors of the second number.
  • Then look to see which factors are the same. These are the common factors.
If you have time, or want an extra challenge, have a go at the common factors reasoning task below. Make sure you explain your ideas for the True or False statements and show your workings for the other question.

English

It was so lovely to ‘see’ so many of you again yesterday on Teams and to hear your fascinating facts. What was really interesting, was that no one had the same fact! I have typed up all the facts which were shared on the Teams meeting on the document below – so have a look through to refresh your memory.

For your silent writing task this week, I would like you to create a Mayan Civilisation fact page. I know that you don’t know a huge amount about them yet as we are still at the start of our topic, but you do already know lots of fascinating facts! You have a few choices about how you complete this task. You could:

  • Create a poster sharing some of your favourite facts which you have learnt so far.
  • Create a general fact page which shares information about a range of different facts about the Mayan Civilisation.
  • Create a more specific fact page about one aspect of the Mayan Civilisation – for example, focusing on just food, settlements, temples, religion, clothes…

Today, I would like you to work on planning your poster/fact page. I know you will probably need time to do some more research and gather some more facts, so use today’s session to do this. Use the planning sheet below to help you record your ideas.

Tomorrow, you will have the whole English session to write your fact page.

RE

In our RE lessons this term, we will be thinking about why Jesus came to Earth, the stories he told on Earth (known as parables) and how he tried to make the Earth a better place for us.

Today we will be focusing on why Jesus came to Earth. Work through the activities on the Powerpoint below.

Reading

Watch the video below of Mrs Soley reading you the story 'The Dragon Under the Stairs'.

After you have listened to the story, have a go at one of these tasks:

  • Try verbally retelling the story to someone at home - can you remember the moral of the story?
  • Pick one of the characters from the story. Write a few sentences to describe what the character is like. Try to be as precise as you can with your vocabulary choices.
  • Draw the dragon from the story - think about which part of the story you are drawing (is it when the dragon is hibernating? When it tries the ice cream? When it rampaged around the castle?)
