Monday 18th January

Good Morning Class 2!

Hello,

How was your weekend? We had a very lazy weekend, playing lots of board games, reading stories, walking in the woods and baking cookies! I wonder what you got up to?

I am excited because we are going to start doing some Teams video calls with Guided Reading groups this week. The first group is today! I am really looking forward to seeing your faces and talking to you! Some of you will have your turn later this week with Mrs Pilgrim and some of you will be next week. You should have all had an email explaining how these sessions will work. Parents, if your child is in school then they will join in with their Guided Reading group while they are in school. If you haven't received an information email and you would like your child to be involved in these sessions then please do let us know!

Phonics Play

Due to the current school closure, Phonics Play are offering all of their online games for free! There are some great phonics games on here that children really love to play. There is a link below.  You need to log on with the username jan21 and password home. Year 1s, choose Phase 3, 4 or 5. Year 2s choose Phase 5.

I hope you all have a great day! I will be starting my day by doing PE with Joe with the children who are in school. If you want to join in at home, click on the link below!

Once Upon a Time Classroom Display

Can you spot the difference?

How many traditional tales can you name?

English

On Friday I gave you your Mighty Writing so you could think about it over the weekend. If you missed it on Friday, here it is again:

Today you are going to write a recount of your weekend news. This can be real or imaginary news! Watch the video below of me writing my weekend news:

I would like you to think about the following while you are writing your recount:

  • Capital letters and full stops
  • Use your sound mat and tricky word mat
  • Use adjectives to add detail and describe

Try to write for at least 20 minutes. You can write your news on any paper you have at home or you can print out the lined template below.

Live Assembly with Mr Woolley

Join in with our Live assembly at 10am. You should have received the link to join via Parent Mail.

Maths

In Mental Maths today we are moving on to learning the 5 times table. Here it is:

1 x 5 = 5

2 x 5 = 10

3 x 5 = 15

4 x 5 = 20

5 x 5 = 25

6 x 5 = 30

7 x 5 = 35

8 x 5 = 40

9 x 5 = 45

10 x 5 = 50

11 x 5 = 55

12 x 5 = 60

Practise saying it. Can you spot anything special about the 5 times table?

Today we are carrying on with adding equal groups like we were doing on Friday.

Year 1:

Today I would like you to use 2, 5 and 10 times table sentences.

First choose a sentence then make it using objects from home, like you did on Friday.

Next I would like you to draw a picture of what you have made.

Then write the repeated addition to go with it.

See if you can write the answer using the number line and 100 square to help you. You might like to try and use your 2 and 5 times tables knowledge to help you count it up.

The sentences, number line and 100 square are below.

For an extra challenge have a go a the worksheet below.

Year 2:

I would like you to complete the below sheet which is all about adding groups. For an extra challenge you might like to then try the problem solving sheet.

Phonics

Start today by playing Picnic on Pluto on Phonics Play to practice recognising sounds and reading words. Year 1s click Phase 3, Year 2s click Phase 5.

Year 1:

Today we are going to practice recognising and reading some of our tricky words. Tricky words are those words that we cannot sound out and blend using our phonics. If you can learn to recognise these words, it will help your reading to become much more fluent. Start by clicking on the Power Point below and read through the words carefully. Talk about each word. Which part of the word is tricky?

Now you are going to do a Tricky Word Scavenger Hunt! Below are some tricky word cards, some instructions and a checklist:

Year 2:

Today we are going to revise reading and spelling Phase 5 tricky words. These words should be familiar as we have spent lots of time in school learning to read and spell them. Start by clicking on the Power Point below. Read each of the tricky words and talk about which part of the word is tricky.

Now have a go at the Tricky Word Spotter story:

This afternoon I would like you to get active! Physical activity is so important for keeping our bodies and minds healthy.  Hampshire School Games have created some fun daily challenges. Today is 'Move it Monday'! Click on the link below to have a go at this fun challenge. There is a new challenge to try each day.

This challenge is quite quick so you could also do one of Sports Dave's videos or some Cosmic Yoga. Or if the weather is dry, you could go out for a bike ride or a run. I would love it if you could email me a photo of you being active!

Reading

Read a book of your choice for at least 15 minutes. You could read one of your books from home or log onto Bug Club and read a book on there. Then click the link below to listen to me reading you Tiddler - The Story Telling Fish.

Note for parents

Good afternoon,

I just wanted to let you know that for Thursday's Science lesson your child will need some paper to make a paper bridge for a toy car. If possible they might like a couple of different types of paper to choose from. They will also need some tape though I will encourage them to use very sparingly!

Thank you.
