Tuesday 19th May

Good morning Class Four,

I hope you had a good day yesterday and enjoyed your home learning. I hope you are looking forward to your silent writing session today writing your playscripts and then art later creating the puppets to go with them.

I had a busy day yesterday, I did my weekly shop (if any of you have been to a supermarket during lockdown then you will know what a horrible task this is!), PE with Joe and a socially distanced walk with Mrs Pilgrim and baby Alice in the morning. In the afternoon, I did some more gloss painting, did an English course online, met my friend Nancy from my kickboxing club for a socially distanced chat in the park and went for a ride on my bike. It was the first ride I've done since I moved house in September as the bike has been at the back of the shed. It was so nice to get out on it and I'm hoping to start cycling to school again soon, although it's a lot further from this house than my old house. It felt like a very busy but good day and so nice to be able to see some people.

During the afternoon, I was sat downstairs on my laptop working and Flash was happily cuddled up in his bed. Fred snuck in and very slowly and quietly got into bed with Flash. As you can see from the photo, Flash was not happy about this situation! They looked so cute snuggled up together. I went upstairs to do some jobs and when I came back downstairs, Fred was stretched out across the whole bed and poor Flash was lying on the floor! He's such a naughty cat!

Have a great day and enjoy your learning, love Miss Olver x

Yesterday's PE session was hard work, but it made me realise how much stronger I've got from doing all these sessions as I could hardly do burpees and mountain climbers at the start. I still find them really hard, but I can do them properly now! Can you believe that Joe has now raised £334,000 for the NHS charities through his PE sessions and selling the T-shirts? If you have been taking part each day, then you have helped him to raise this amazing amount, well done!

Maths

It's Tuesday today, which means Times Tables test day! If you still have a test in your pack, then work through this today. If not, you can find the one you need on the Maths Help section of the Class Four website. Give yourself 5 minutes to complete the test. I have put all the answers to the times tables tests up in the Maths Help folder as well so you can now mark them yourself.

Year 5

Today you are going to be continuing with your work on decimals. Go to the White Rose Maths Home Learning Year 5 website and find Summer Term Week 4, Lesson 1 which is called ‘Areas of Rectangles’. Watch the video and work through the worksheet. I have attached the answers so you can check your work. I have included my workings for questions 7 and 8 in case you need some help with these.

If you have time, or want an extra challenge, have a go at this area problem. I’ve included my workings in the answer document in case you need some help with it.

Year 6

Today you are going to be continuing with your work from yesterday on multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. Today I would like you to focus on dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 and to complete pages 3 and 4 of the worksheet. You might want to watch the video again to revise this first. If you do, then go to the White Rose Maths Home Learning Year 6 website and find Summer Term Week 5, Lesson 1 which is called ‘Multiply and Divide by 10, 100 and 1000’. I have attached the answers so you can check your work.

If you have time, or want an extra challenge, have a look through the activity booklet below and choose another activity to complete.

English

Remember to write an entry in your diary/journal at some point today.

In today’s session, you will be writing your play script. Remember to refer to your plan from yesterday. When writing your play script you will need:

  • A title for the scene
  • A list of the characters involved and a brief description of them
  • A description of the setting
  • The dialogue the characters say
  • Any stage directions you might need

The picture below gives you some prompts of things to remember and if you are unsure about anything, remember that you can go back and look through the Powerpoint from yesterday again as a reminder.

Topic

Mrs Soley has planned another fun art session for you this afternoon where you will be making puppets to go with your Greek theatre to use for your Greek play. Remember - you will need to make a puppet for each character who features in your play.

Spellings and Reading

Make sure you practise your spelling sentences and do some independent reading.
