Christian Values

Our Christian Values of Love and Care for others underpin our whole vision and all of the work we do. We want children to understand that through loving God, loving themselves and loving others they are living within the love that God the father, the Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit has for us all. They can project this outward towards others through the care they show them. Many of our families with strong faith will recognise the theological basis of the Prime Commandment which Jesus taught:

Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22: 36-40

Many of our families who perhaps describe themselves as having no faith still value this love and care because of the extensive work it leads towards in building relationships and learning to care and show kindness towards each other.

What do Our Values of Love and Care mean to us?

These values are so important here at Upham CE Primary because of the nature of our school and our community.

  • In our small school everyone 'stands out' so a shared sense of everyone being valued where difference is positive and good is vital.
  • The majority of our children are lucky enough to enjoy privileged lives and helping them to think beyond their own 'wants' and to empathise with others is essential.
  • Extensive opportunities to develop social skills with different ages encourages children to think about everyone, not just their immediate friends or peers but to truly see the worth of everyone, even those they perhaps dislike.
