Thursday 4th June

Good morning Class Four!
I can't quite believe it's already Thursday, this week seems to be going very quickly.

I had a nice evening last night, I went for a run around Upham before I cycled home yesterday. It was so nice to run somewhere different to Eastleigh, although I had forgotten how hilly it was! Then when I got home, I had a quiet evening watching TV and had a nice long chat with my Mum on the phone.

This morning, Flash and I went for our normal early morning walk around Leigh Park and he had a lovely roll around on the grass!

Have a lovely day, keep working hard (it'll soon be the weekend!!).

Love Miss Olver x

I really enjoyed Joe's 'Around the World' workout yesterday - particularly the Scottish dancing! I hope he has some more fun moves in store for us today.

Maths

It’s Thursday, so you need to do your Learn It challenge today. If you still have one, work through this. If not and you are working on the Ultimate Challenges, then these are saved in the Maths Help section of the Class Four website. If you need another sheet, please email me and tell me which one, then I will email it to you. Give yourself 2 minutes to complete your sheet. Once you are finished, if an adult is free, you could ask them to kindly mark it for you, if not, mark it yourself with a calculator.

Year 5

Today you are going to be continuing with your work on fractions from yesterday. Go to the White Rose Maths Home Learning Year 5 website and find Summer Term Week 5, Lesson 4 which is called ‘Subtract Mixed Numbers’. Watch the video and work through the worksheet. I have attached the answers so you can check your work. I have also attached my workings for Question 3 so you can see how I would show my workings as I convert the fraction to a fraction with a common denominator before subtracting. This is how I have modelled it for you in class when we have done similar questions together. But you can choose if you use this method or the number line one shown in the video.

If you have time, or want an extra challenge, have a go at one of the online games below which will help you to practise working on adding and subtracting fractions:

Year 6

Today you are going to be continuing your work on decimals, fractions and percentages from earlier this week. Go to the White Rose Maths Home Learning Year 6 website and find Summer Term Week 6, Lesson 3 which is called ‘Order FDP’. Watch the video and then complete the worksheet. I have attached the answers so you can check your work. I have also included my workings for Q3, 5 and 6 in case you want to have a look at how I would work these out.

If you have time, or want an extra challenge, have a go at one of the online fraction, decimal and percentage maths games below. (If you go on the Puppy Chase Game then make sure you choose the private option so you play against the computer).

English

Remember to write an entry in your diary/journal at some point today.

This half term we are going to be focusing on words which are homophones. These are words which sound the same but are spelt differently. This week we are focusing on the words there/their/they're (although the sentences also have advice and advise in them which are almost homophones).

Start by looking through the Powerpoint below to remind you about the meaning of each spelling.

The BBC website below has a little video and some online activities you can work through to help you with these spellings.
Now have a go at the worksheet below - you need to put the correct spelling of the homophone in the gaps. I have put a picture below which might help you to remember the meaning of each spelling.
You might like to practise your spelling sentences now whilst these spellings are fresh in your mind.

RE

Today we are going to be starting a new RE topic about Creation. I want you to think about the word creation, what does this word mean to you? Create a spider diagram with the word creation in the middle and then write some words which you associate with creation around the outside. You might want to draw some little images to go with these.

In this session, you are going to create a ‘Creation Wordle’ to share your ideas.

I have explained how to do this on the document below and shared the link for the website you will need.

Spellings and Reading

Make sure you practise your spelling sentences (if you didn’t do them in the English session earlier) ready for your test tomorrow and do some independent reading.
