Swarm of bees visit

We had a bit of drama yesterday as a huge swarm of bees decided to rest in a tree by the school field mid-morning. Once they had settled they were completely calm but we gave them space by just using the playground and challenge trail for playtime. I took groups to cautiously have a look from a safe distance at the swarm in the tree (see photo above) as they were so interested in this phenomena. Some local bee keepers attempted to gather the swarm and I showed the children a video of this in assembly today. Unfortunately it didn’t go to plan and the swarm moved on. A really interesting experience though and a good opportunity to revisit how important bees are to humans and healthy ecology.
