Class 4 gave a fabulous performance of ‘The Blue Bottle’ to families last night. Some wonderful singing and great acting from everyone – all the children had parts, as is how we offer opportunities at Upham.
At the end the children did a collection to raise money for World Wildlife Fund, in particular marine conservation. They had chosen this charity in class because they are deeply concerned about pollution, the growing plastic problem and animal decline. This was summed up eloquently by Cerys who shared that ‘I want to support WWF because I want my grandchildren to be able to enjoy the same animals I can see’. Wisdom indeed!
Year 6 visited Portsmouth Cathedral this week for their Leaver’s service. The cohort was split and attended on different days due to clashes with secondary school visits. The services were for Year 6 children from across the Diocese of Portsmouth who are moving on from their Church of England schools. The bishop spoke and blessed them all. Part of the service was devoted to bees – this year the Diocese encouraged schools to develop bee-friendly provision to help support bees which are in decline. This stewardship was discussed and explored. As part of this, each school produced a canvas artwork, based on this theme which will hang in the cathedral for the summer – ours was a collection of ‘microscope’ pastel images which all of Class 4 helped to produce.
