Standing Together Against Hate
Our collective worship has been a little different this week. On Monday we started to explore a theme in preparation for Monday 27th which is Holocaust Memorial Day. This most sombre of subjects is difficult to explore but I started by talking about how we are all so lucky to be safe and happy. I then talked about what hate is and that in the distant past a group called the Nazis used their position to act on their hate and do horrible things to people they hated – such as Jews, which is called the Holocaust. This was all age-appropriate and not detailing the full implications of the acts committed. This is a piece of work Portsmouth & Winchester Diocese board of Education has encouraged all CE schools to do. It is based on the idea of ‘standing together against hate’ – a timely message for current society.
